How to choose your first five Airbnb pictures

A brilliant quick fix: take five minutes right now to make a big impact on your listing.

Whether you are advertising on Airbnb, another platform or your own website, you have a few second to impress with those first few images.

It's easy to focus on what we as hosts think matters about our place, but we need to get into the heads of our ideal guests... What are they looking for and what do you need to show them so they know yours is the best place for them?

On Airbnb, the first five are especially important, as they're the ones that show on the banner guests see when they click on your place.

Your first photo should show your key selling point - a hot tub, a pool, a lovely big family space, a garden, or a huge luxury bath perhaps. If it’s a large property, this is likely to be a main entertaining space. Focus on what matters to the guests and the reason they should choose your place.

Another factor is standing out. Take a look at the first photos that come up on a search of similar properties around you, and make sure yours is eye catching. If the others are all showing green gardens, find a blue sky to share!

Across the first five photos, make sure they sell the best your place has to offer: celebrate each of the most important spaces and don't include repetition.
